ME AND MY BIG MOUTH....ROUND 2

Okay. So, last week I posted about getting into a social media debate  regarding nutrition, weight loss, health, and a few other things that weren’t really relevant. The point of my post (before this debate happened) was that what you’re eating can have a direct effect on your health. I still stand by this statement. I was also told that because I have a link to a guide that says “ Natural GLP-1 Boosters ”, I “obviously” am not interested in science. When I explained it’s a list of healthy foods (general and specific) and recipes to go along with, I was then told “Food Isn’t Medicine”. I beg to differ.  While I agree that food is not MEDICATION , I do not agree that food cannot be “a compound or preparation used for the treatment or prevention of disease”, as MEDICINE is defined in the dictionary. BUT…. In the interest of playing devil’s advocate, I’m going to throw this out there…. Who cares? So what if “food isn’t medicine”? Does that mean it’s going to HURT y...

GIVING YOURSELF FULL PERMISSION TO EAT!

There is a movement going on in the nutrition world that is battling to conquer the harmful effects of “Diet Culture”. Where you are expected to look a certain way, be a certain size, be a certain weight, and follow restrictive and sometimes harmful diets. This culture can lead to eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, etc.), disordered eating (being preoccupied with foods, weight, and body image to the point where it affects your quality of life), and mental health issues. Whether it’s cutting out carbs, cutting out fats, only eating vegan food, etc., there are a lot of “rules” that we place around food. Some of these restrictions are medically necessary (ex. Cutting out sugar because of diabetes, cutting out gluten because of allergies, etc.); some restrictions are for personal or moral reasons (ex. Eating vegetarian or vegan to avoid animal p...

HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE

So, what exactly IS Health at Every Size? And what does it mean for busy moms? It’s a lifestyle that encourages healthy eating and enjoyable physical movement as an alternative to “dieting” in order to feel better and live longer. In fact, it could be considered the opposition to the dieting culture which calls for food restrictions, counting calories or macros, eating less, exercising more. HAES focuses on moving in ways you find enjoyable while also “challenging” yourself – meaning if you can only do 5 minutes of moderate walking, then only do 5 minutes of walking, but tomorrow try for 6 minutes . Or dancing around your living room for a couple of songs before you get tired, and then trying for 3 songs the next time. It also focuses on changing HOW you eat, not only WHAT you eat – meaning that you make healthier food choices (an apple with nut butter over a cookie), but you also listen to your body’s hunger cues (are you actually HUNGRY or just bored?). You only eat until 8...
