ME AND MY BIG MOUTH....ROUND 2

Okay. So, last week I posted about getting into a social media debate  regarding nutrition, weight loss, health, and a few other things that weren’t really relevant. The point of my post (before this debate happened) was that what you’re eating can have a direct effect on your health. I still stand by this statement. I was also told that because I have a link to a guide that says “ Natural GLP-1 Boosters ”, I “obviously” am not interested in science. When I explained it’s a list of healthy foods (general and specific) and recipes to go along with, I was then told “Food Isn’t Medicine”. I beg to differ.  While I agree that food is not MEDICATION , I do not agree that food cannot be “a compound or preparation used for the treatment or prevention of disease”, as MEDICINE is defined in the dictionary. BUT…. In the interest of playing devil’s advocate, I’m going to throw this out there…. Who cares? So what if “food isn’t medicine”? Does that mean it’s going to HURT y...

I’m Going to Tell You the SECRET No One in the Fitness Industry Wants You to Hear….

Got your attention? Okay.  Now that I’ve gotten the theatrics out of the way, I really am going to tell you the “secret”.  This applies to most, BUT NOT ALL , cases of people who are trying to lose weight, deal with medical issues, overall health, living longer, etc. Pretty much anything health related. WHAT YOU’RE EATING HAS A GREATER EFFECT ON YOUR OVERALL HEALTH THAN ANYTHING ELSE YOU DO . I managed to get myself into a debate on social media, which was unintentional and not meant to be disrespectful. But RESPECTFULLY, I completely disagreed with their stance that food and weight loss do not have an impact on health conditions.  Health risks related to diet .  Nutritional Deficiencies . Is exercise important? Yes, it is.  But you can be very active, eat terribly, and deal with all kinds of health issues. Or be active, but still overweight because of eating too much sugar, fat, salt, or too many calories overall, and have NO health issues (high blood pres...

Want the Benefits of Ozempic Without Actually Having to TAKE Ozempic? Read On....

So, Ozempic is a hot topic in the health, wellness, and nutrition world right now. It works by simulating GLP-1, a hormone that stimulates insulin production which helps to regulate blood sugar levels, prevents blood sugar spikes, and slows down food leaving the stomach. I t also plays an important role in making you feel fuller for longer and suppressing your appetite. This has made Ozempic not only an effective Type 2 diabetes medication, but also an effective weight loss medication. There is currently great debate and continued study on the long-term effects of taking Ozempic and other medications that act as GLP-1 simulators and stimulators. This post really isn’t intended to debate the pros and cons of using a GLP-1 medication. This is to give anyone who is interested in the AFFECTS of taking a medication like Ozempic an option of getting the same GLP-1 hormone stimulation from some of the foods you can be eating. The 3 things that stimulate this hormone naturally are Fiber...

Picky Eating - It's Not Just a "Kid" Thing

After my sons went to college, our household food routine changed. We were able to cook a more diverse array of foods at home. We no longer had to go to restaurants that the boys would eat at because they were EXTREMELY picky eaters and would only eat certain things at certain places (pizza, pasta, chicken strips, etc.). Once they started eating chicken strips more often, it actually took a LOT of stress off our family food dynamic. Then in college they started to branch out a bit more and have been willing to try a few more things – seafood, burgers, more types of vegetables, etc. Now we are faced with a new dilemma and that is picky eating for Hubs. Let me preface this by saying that this is not his fault . Due to medications, there are certain foods he can’t eat at all or things he must be really careful about so they don’t interact badly with his meds. But regardless of HOW it happened, we are still in the situation of having a limited set of options for him to eat. Some o...

THIS PROBABLY SOUNDS BORING, BUT HEAR ME OUT…

Food as Medicine. Sounds kinda wacky, but it's actually a growing field of study in healthcare and nutrition – the idea of using food to slow, stop, and even REVERSE certain diseases and chronic illnesses. That’s it. Now, before you nod off to sleep or close out of this post, just hear me out for another minute. This can actually be INCREDIBLY beneficial to busy moms. How , you might ask? Please allow me to explain. The entire premise is that by eating healthy, nutrient-dense foods, it is possible to prevent illnesses, slow the progression of a disease you already have, stop the progression of some diseases, and in some cases even REVERSE certain illnesses. There are even trial programs around the country happening now between doctors, dieticians, and healthcare providers who are working together with chefs and food companies to actually PRESCRIBE MEALS as medication in order to treat diseases. These are medically tailored meals. Sometimes it’s pre-made meal...
