BACK TO BASICS

I’m going back to the BASICS.

So, that brings the question: What are the “Basics”?

And this is where the answer gets a little tricky because the basics are different for everyone. What I consider MY basics are not what someone else would consider basic.

I call the BASICS anything you can do on a regular basis with the minimal amount of effort, OR whatever YOU consider the most important first steps on a health and wellness journey.

For example: Do you drink alcohol? Do you smoke?

From a health and wellness standpoint the answers “should” be NO on smoking, and IN MODERATION or NO on drinking. If that’s not the case for you, those are two areas of focus to start your health journey.

How much water do you drink per day? Do you drink sugary beverages (soda, juice, sweet tea, etc.)? These are also basics where you should be drinking a MINIMUM of 64 oz of water per day and VERY LIMITED or NO sugary beverages.

Then there is a whole plethora of areas to get into concerning NUTRITION, EXERCISE, STRESS MANAGEMENT, SLEEP, etc.

So, now the question becomes: Where Do You Begin?

What area/s do you want to start with? How do you get started? What are the first steps you take?

Are you ready to figure out the basics on your own, or do you need help?

I designed a Habit Tracker with a set of Health Basics that I follow each week. Not gonna lie, in the last couple of months, my tracking has gotten off track (pun intended!) and I am using the next month to re-calibrate my goals, my plan, and my action steps to get me to the next phase of my health journey.

That is the beauty of The Basics. No matter how far off course you get (or how long you’ve stopped focusing on your healthy habits), you can always come back and start over, or pick up where you left off. Every step is progress – whether it’s eating an extra veggie with dinner, doing squats in your living room during a commercial, or drinking an extra glass of water with your lunch.

Whatever your basics are, focusing on them is what will get you to your ultimate goals.

Working with a health/nutrition coach is also an excellent way to zero in on your health goals, make a plan, create your action steps, and get the support and accountability you need to be consistent and reach your goals. Contact me for a FREE Consultation to make your goals happen for you.

I’m Going to Tell You the SECRET No One in the Fitness Industry Wants You to Hear….

Got your attention? Okay.  Now that I’ve gotten the theatrics out of the way, I really am going to tell you the “secret”.  This applies to most, BUT NOT ALL , cases of people who are trying to lose weight, deal with medical issues, overall health, living longer, etc. Pretty much anything health related. WHAT YOU’RE EATING HAS A GREATER EFFECT ON YOUR OVERALL HEALTH THAN ANYTHING ELSE YOU DO . I managed to get myself into a debate on social media, which was unintentional and not meant to be disrespectful. But RESPECTFULLY, I completely disagreed with their stance that food and weight loss do not have an impact on health conditions.  Health risks related to diet .  Nutritional Deficiencies . Is exercise important? Yes, it is.  But you can be very active, eat terribly, and deal with all kinds of health issues. Or be active, but still overweight because of eating too much sugar, fat, salt, or too many calories overall, and have NO health issues (high blood pres...

ME AND MY BIG MOUTH....ROUND 2

Okay. So, last week I posted about getting into a social media debate  regarding nutrition, weight loss, health, and a few other things that weren’t really relevant. The point of my post (before this debate happened) was that what you’re eating can have a direct effect on your health. I still stand by this statement. I was also told that because I have a link to a guide that says “ Natural GLP-1 Boosters ”, I “obviously” am not interested in science. When I explained it’s a list of healthy foods (general and specific) and recipes to go along with, I was then told “Food Isn’t Medicine”. I beg to differ.  While I agree that food is not MEDICATION , I do not agree that food cannot be “a compound or preparation used for the treatment or prevention of disease”, as MEDICINE is defined in the dictionary. BUT…. In the interest of playing devil’s advocate, I’m going to throw this out there…. Who cares? So what if “food isn’t medicine”? Does that mean it’s going to HURT y...

THIS Is The Blog Post That’s Going to Offend You….So Y’all Buckle Up

At what juncture did we, as a society, hit the point where eating whole, minimally-processed, nutritious food became “diet” food….and ultra-processed, sugary, salty, extra-fatty foods became “normal”? I like pizza. I like fries. I like chocolate cake.  But I find it frustrating when I’m looking for healthy options on a menu or when we’re attending a game or tournament for Mini-Me, and I get asked, “Are you on a diet or something?” when I eventually settle for a grilled-chicken sandwich at a restaurant, or popcorn at the game because there are no other options. I know this is also an incredibly frustrating situation for Hubs as well. He is actively working on his health and wellness. He’s lost 40 pounds (YAY Hubs!), and is working on more. He has to limit sugar, white flour, and processed foods. That makes most foods at a concession stand null and void. It makes most fast-food places difficult to navigate. Sit-down restaurants are a little better, but still have very limited optio...
