SURPRISE….YOU CAN’T!
I’ve been posting about food a LOT lately, and mainly it’s because watching what you eat (making healthier choices), controlling portion sizes, and pushing for whole, unprocessed foods is the “best” way to improve your health and lose weight.
More on that in a second.
Exercise is important.But the
reality is that unless regular healthy food choices becomes the way you eat
MOST of the time, long-term weight loss/maintenance is much more difficult. Not
to mention, it’s been proven in several studies that 70-80% of weight loss
efforts are determined by what you eat while 20-30% depends on your exercise.
As a trainer friend of mine mentioned, you can’t out-train a bad diet.
You can maintain.
You can yo-yo back and forth between loss and gain.
But
eventually the strain of improper nutrition, excess calories, and the health problems
that can be caused by both will catch up with you.
And when I say “best” I don’t mean “it’s so simple, why isn’t everyone doing it?” I mean that even when you’re struggling to find time to exercise, to find motivation to be active, you’re still going to have to put food in your mouth and eat every day. And it’s possible to give yourself a 70% head-start on your health and weight-loss journey by focusing on your nutrition, rather than relying on exercise to do all the work for you.
Don’t get me wrong – MOVEMENT IS IMPORTANT! Let me repeat that – MOVEMENT IS IMPORTANT! And one more time for the people in the back – MOVEMENT IS IMPORTANT!!!
Proper nutrition will give you a jump start and make the movement and exercise that much more effective than battling health/weight loss/wellness alone.
Not to mention, when you’re starting out and your life is hectic enough, it might seem impossible to change how you’re eating, fitting in exercise, getting proper sleep, managing your stress, etc., all at once. If you do nothing more than focus on improving your nutrition and eating habits, you’re going to see changes in your energy levels, your mood, and how your body functions each day.
So,
once again, while I cannot stress enough that movement and exercise are
EXTREMELY important to your overall health and wellbeing, if you’re overwhelmed
with where to start your health/weight loss journey, look at nutrition to see
where you can make changes to your food choices and give yourself a head-start
toward a healthier you!
